Was the food good, yes, but not worth what I paid for it. I got the pulled pork sandwich that came with chips and I ordered a pickle spear as well. With the soda I spent $25, to me that is overpriced. I then tried the ice cream that they are known for, I got the Larch Mountain kids sized cup, whip was about $8. Also overpriced, but for a treat, that one is worth it. This is all with the added on gratuity, so don't be surprised. I think if the gratuity is added on, you shouldn't feel obliged to have to bus your own table, they have a stand for that in which you separate everything. Is this place cute, yes, but it's not some place that you can visit often unless you're in a higher tax bracket. So it's not for me, but it seems to be a place that many like, and I do see why.
If you're in the mood for a delightful treat, Sugarpine Drive-In is the place to be. This charming spot boasts a fantastic selection of ice cream options, including seasonal items that keep things exciting. I was particularly impressed with their build-your-own soft serve, which lets you customize your sundae to perfection. I tried their current signature sundaes, the watermelon margarita sundae, which was a refreshing twist on a classic, and the special cherry sundae, both of which were absolutely delicious. The menu doesn't stop at just ice cream; they offer sandwiches and soups as well, making it a versatile stop for both sweet and savory cravings. The outdoor seating area is a nice touch, especially on a sunny day. One thing to note is that there's a 20% service fee added to all orders in lieu of tips, which might come as a surprise if you're not expecting it. Sugarpine Drive-In a great choice for a treat. Plus, the convenience of the drive-thru is a nice bonus for those on the go. I will try their food next time!
SUGARPINE DESERVES ALL THE HYPE AND MORE! Might be a bit of a biased review based off of one ice cream but when waiting in the drive-in line, I really wondered how good could this ice cream be, after all "ice cream is just ice cream." I was quickly proven wrong. We ordered the Mauna Loa ice cream. The Thai tea whipped cream paired with the chocolate covered ice cream and brittle was nothing less than an amazing combination. There was even a bit of artistry with the ice cream coming out of the chocolate shell, emulating a volcano. Be prepared to wait in the drive-in line and be prepared to not have a parking spot! But then again, all good things come to those who wait :)
Yes you should drive out of your way to eat here!! Ignore your partner, and come to food spectacular. Better than Hawaii. This should be a franchise. Absolute perfection of balance of sweet hint of spice. Kalua pulled pork best in the world I gave in and ordered the ice cream The Sundays are like eating ice cream at grandma's house. The best food I've eaten in Portland this trip. Edit: day 2 we came back and ate AGAIN!
Yum! We had the seasonal sando- the "Tomato-Tonnato". The tonnato sauce was delicious and the tuna slices were seared to perfection - not overcooked! It also had thick-sliced heirloom tomato, some pickled veggie and mixed greens. So yum!
If you long for the days gone by of classy drive-ins, good eats, and chill vibes, Sugarpine is the place to come. Think of your classic drive-in with updated aesthetics, elevated food options, and a fantastic locational setting. Finish your day on the Sandy River or hiking the Gorge with a tasty ice cream sundae, or a delicious dinner. We had the Mauna Loa and the Peach Melba sundaes, and they were quite good. Good flavor combos, a healthy amount of toppings layered onto a delicious soft serve base. It's so simple yet so good. If there was anything to say remotely negative about this spot, it's the hours and the line. They close at 5, so you have to be able to make it during the day. Also given the limited hours, it can make for quite the line - but really it just speaks to the demand of this place. The hype is justified, in my opinion. Can't wait to come again!
I see the hype about the place! This place gets busy but the staff has it down. We did not have to wait too long for our food and we ordered ice cream once we got our food. Everything was so fresh and the menu changes seasonally. We ordered the sandwich and salad. I recommend sharing an ice cream because it is huge. Can't wait to come back and try other items on the menu!
Sugarpine Drive-In is one of my favorite sweet treats in the Portland area. Sitting on the bank of the Sandy River, this drive-in is situated in a perfect location for relaxing afternoons in the spring and summer. There are trails down to the river, and plenty of outdoor seating to best take in the scenery. I've yet to order a meal here, opting instead for the sweet treats! I absolutely love the Larch Mountain signature sundae. It's a chocolate/vanilla swirl soft serve topped with blondie brownie bites, topped with blueberry-lavender sauce and pine nut honeycomb crunch! It's absolutely divine! The staff are very friendly and efficient, overseeing swift service and a quick turnaround with seated customers. This place is really hopping on the weekends, so parking a seating may be difficult to come by if you visit during peak hours. The drive through is for dessert orders only, and can back up into the parking at times. But the line moves pretty quickly. Do yourself a favor and check out Sugarpine Drive-In. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Originally I was a little skeptical because I've had pulled pork in the past, but was never blown away: however the server told us that this was their specials and people from all over the country come here just for the pulled pork sandwich. So we tried it and man was it good. The pulled pork meat was tender and moist, not dry at all. The bread was soft, and had this really nice sauce to it. The slaw was nice and crunchy and the pesto added a nice touch to it.
I've been wanting to come here for a long time and finally made it today! It was an overcast Saturday so it was busy but not packed but I can only imagine how popular this would be on a sunny summer day, especially after taking your doggo to run around all morning around the corner at the Sandy River Delta. There were many seating options mostly picnic tables, some bar tops on the parameter and covered seating tables inside where the ordering and pick up windows are. I do appreciate the instructions on ordering and the suggestions for when to order ice cream: order with your meal and get it at the same time, order when picking up your food, and going back in line after you finish your meal. All the staff were super friendly and helpful with the menu and it seems to be a well-run restaurant with a homey cozy vibe. Not to mention that the food is phenomenal and fresh! We got the special sandwich Koji Grinder (plant-based), Sugarpine Salad with whipped feta on the side, and the plant-based Strawberry Strudel Sundae. I can't tell you how grateful I am for non-dairy soft server options that's actually delicious! The bread for the grinder had that crunchy crust on the outside but perfectly soft on the inside with all the essential savory and vinegary flavors of an Italian deli sandwich with a plant-based twist. The salad had a variety of fresh marinated veggies with their house-made green goddess dressing. All food is freshly prepared and showcase the seasonality and locally sourced goodness! The star of the show had to be the sundae for sure! My toddler and I were fighting for the last bite from the cup! Please come support this local business and get ready to wow your taste buds!
